The marina is located close to nearby job centers in various office complexes and high rises in downtown of this city known as a regional biotech center.[3] The high and increasing traffic on Highway 101 and job centers being located adjacent to this marina has led the San Francisco Bay Water Transit Authority to develop a ferry terminal here.[3] That terminal will operate service to downtown San Francisco as well as Bay Farm Island in Alameda on the opposite shore.[4] Service will begin in 2011.[5]
In addition to boating and parkland there are 2.3 miles (3.7 km) of sandy beaches.[1]
Two docks will be removed for the new pilings and floats based ferry terminal and the Army Corps of Engineers is setting up breakwaters in order to allow safe ferry operations.[5]
Money from a 250 million dollar State Proposition 1B grant will be used to begin building the terminal sometime in 2008.[6]
